Dear friend, It can be scary

Dear friend,
It can be scary when you period is late. But if your period was due on the 13th or 14th, and you had sex on the 12th, then that can't be the cause of your late period. It take several days before your body would even know it was pregnant!

Ovulation happens in the middle of your cycle. Did you have sex around the 1st of the month? If you are pregnant, that would be the more likely timing. See the page at http://www.contracept.org/reproduction.php for more info about this process.

There are many things that can make your period late other than pregnancy, such as stress, travel, dieting, exercise, etc. Give it a few days and if still no period, get a pregnancy test.

Best of luck,
Dr. Williams
