Birth Control Pill for Men

Recent studies and trials are underway for a male birth control pill. There is no indication when the male birth control will be available however, the pill is not the only method being studied and tested for men.

How the Pill Works

The male birth control pill uses synthetic hormones to lower a man's sperm count to zero. The pill is similar to a woman’s birth control pill it is taken once a day at roughly the same time. The pills do have side effects just like a woman’s birth control pill. However, exactly what side effects will not be released until the pill is ready to be marketed.

Other Male Birth Control Methods

Aside from the pill, researchers are also working a few other types of birth control for men a patch, implants, injections, and even gels. These too will have some side effects. Any time you change the hormonal balance in the body it can cause side effects.


Clinical trials have already been done in various countries showing that oral contraceptives for men are effective. It is only a matter of time before the male birth control pill and other forms of male birth control are available.
