I HEARD THAT YOU SHOULD NOT BE ON THE DEPO VERA SHOT ANYLONGER THAN 2 YEARS IWAS ON IT FOR 5 YEARS SHOULD I BE CONCERENED

Hi Brendawith2boys, You are

Hi Brendawith2boys,

You are correct the recommended amount of time Depo Vera shot is 2 years. Unless no other form of birth control works for you then that is up to you and your doctor to decided whether or not to continue with the Depo.

The concern with Depo for more than 2 years is that the women will have a harder time becoming pregnant. If you want more children then it would be wise to switch birth control methods now.

It is recommended that a woman only take Depo for 2 years because the Depo causes a woman to lose some of the calcium that is stored in her bones. The longer you use Depo the more calcium you are likely to lose and this could result in osteoporosis (a disease of the bones that can lead to fractures.)
